Really Bored

Destroy All Monsters : Bored

February 1978 was surely a great month for the women of rock. Kate Bush and Nina Hagen both released stunning debut albums. Blondie released a single that would climb to #2 on the U.K. charts. And, from Detroit, came a self released single whose sound was years ahead of its time, a powerful, upside down, avant garde electric guitar "noise" (played by the left handed brother of Mission of Burma's Roger Miller) supporting a leggy vocalist described later by Spin magazine as "a thrift store Nico in a bloody gown.”

Her name is Niagara. Like the Falls. She's a pop artist whose paintings are big in Japan and among low brow art collectors with taste. Taking their name from a Japanese sci-fi film, Destroy All Monsters merged Stooges style rock with punk. In fact members of both The Stooges and the MC5 would join the band. Thurston Moore would become one of DAM's biggest fans. He released a three compact disc compilation of the group's music in 1994.
